Dr. Victor J. Mazza - Director of Cardiology Division
Dr. Victor J. Mazza , a trusted cardiologist in Hackensack NJ, was born and raised in Nutley, New Jersey. He has been practicing Cardiology and Electrophysiology since 2010. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular disease, and Electrophysiology. He received his medical degree from Saint George’s University School of Medicine. Dr. Mazza completed his Internal Medicine residency, Chief residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. His second fellowship, in Electrophysiology, was completed at Temple University in Philadelphia.
His dual fellowships and advanced training, allow him to take care of and manage patients covering the full spectrum of cardiovascular conditions - general cardiology Hackensack NJ patients trust and advanced electrophysiology care (see list of common disorders below). He has received numerous honors and awards. 2006- Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism, as well as being selected as one of New Jersey’s and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors. He has given oral presentations and poster presentations at local and National conferences and has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals.
As a leading Hackensack cardiologist, Dr. Mazza performs numerous hospital-based procedures and surgeries (see list below). He has a strong passion for office- based management as well. He provides a warm and friendly environment and makes each patient feel like they are his only patient of the day. He holds a firm belief in patient education and their right to understand their diagnosis and available treatment options. This fosters a team approach, shared decision making, leading to a focused, goal directed, management plan.
Dr. Susan Phung
Dr. Susan Phung is a fellowship-trained, board-certified cardiologist with more than a decade of experience specializing in preventive cardiology, women’s cardiovascular health, hypertension, and lipid disorders. She is committed to helping patients prevent, diagnose, and manage heart disease through compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s unique health goals and lifestyle.
Dr. Phung earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s–Mount Sinai West in New York City before pursuing a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at New York Medical College–St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Prior to medical school, Dr. Phung received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Columbia University and earned a Master of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from New York Medical College, providing a strong scientific foundation that continues to inform her clinical practice.
Dr. Phung is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. She also holds advanced certifications in Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, Clinical Hypertension, Clinical Lipidology, and Vascular Interpretation, reflecting her comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of cardiovascular care.
Her clinical interests include cardiovascular disease prevention, cholesterol management, hypertension, women’s heart health, and cardiovascular risk reduction. She is passionate about identifying risk factors early and developing personalized treatment plans that empower patients to improve their long-term health. Through education, shared decision-making, and preventive medicine, Dr. Phung helps patients take an active role in achieving lifelong cardiovascular wellness.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Phung has contributed to cardiovascular research focused on heart disease prevention and hypertension management, further demonstrating her commitment to advancing the field and improving patient outcomes.
Known for her warm, patient-centered approach, Dr. Phung believes that exceptional cardiovascular care begins with listening. She takes the time to understand each patient’s concerns, values, and goals, building lasting relationships founded on trust, communication, and personalized care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Phung is a devoted mother, world traveler, and avid tennis player. Whether exploring new cultures, spending time with her family, or competing on the tennis court, she brings the same energy, discipline, and dedication to every aspect of her life that she brings to caring for her patients.
Dina Abukharma APN
Dina Abukharma APN, is a Board Certified Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. She completed her nursing degree at Holy Name School of Nursing. After completion of that program she proceeded to achieve her Bachelor’s Science of Nursing degree at Chamberlain University. She has over 7 years experience as a Registered Nurse working primarily in the cardiac step-down units, ICU, and Cardio-Thoracic ICU in Hackensack Medical Center. During this time, she advanced her education to obtain her Master’s Degree in Acute Care Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner through Seton Hall University. Her passion for cardiology led her to begin her NP career in the Heart Failure program at Morristown Medical Center.
Dina has a strong passion for acute and chronic cardiac disease prevention and processes. She has a vast understanding of acute care/cardiogenic shock management with mechanical circulatory devices including: ECMO, Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon pump, and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD).
She also developed a robust understanding of the management and care of patients with chronic cardiac devices including pacemakers, defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy devices (CRT), Cardiac Contractility Modulation (CCM-Optimzer), and CardioMEMS (Pulmonary Artery Sensor). Her experience with advanced heart failure therapies and critical care has enhanced her commitment to collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals.
Her goal is to be a key educator, helping patients understand their conditions, create lifestyle changes, and build a rapport with patients to improve cardiac care and improve patient outcomes.
Daniel Huq APN
Daniel Huq APN has more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Daniel has served in a wide range of nursing specialties, including Level III Neonatal Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Emergency Department, Telemetry, and Step-Down units. His leadership experience includes roles as Clinical Operations Manager, Administrative Head Nurse, and Adjunct Professor at several universities.
Most recently, he has been providing exceptional patient care as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Interventional Cardiology. Daniel’s educational accomplishments are equally impressive. He began his academic journey at Rutgers University’s Livingston College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He then completed his Nursing Diploma at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing and earned an associate in science degree through Union County College. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Daniel obtained both a Master of Nursing and a Master of Public Administration from Kean University. He later earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Windsor University and became ECFMG certified. Most recently, he completed a Post-Master’s Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate at William Paterson University.
